I decided to study abroad for two months in Cebu, Philippines during Taiwan summer vacation. This is my first time to travel in other country for such a long time with no parents but only my cousin, who is only fifteen-year-old boy, was unfamiliar with me, even he already forgot whom I was when we finally met in the airport. However, we made friends with each other and some Taiwanese who were also teenagers. All of us were teenagers with no experience in studying abroad alone, but we really took care of each other even though others of different nationalities. To our amazement, traveling abroad is just like an adventure. We found those like-minded companions as if they are our family in such a strange environment in which we got along together. Therefore, we really recovered from homesickness and began our adventurous and exciting lives in Cebu.
The Philippines, which is a wonderful country, can really make you praise without cease. You can look forward to taking vacation here with the warm weather, various native food, friendly Filipinos, and unusual experiences, which you can only enjoy here. Lots of foreigners and local people love to go to the beaches in numerous islands in the Philippines.
In my case, I enjoyed the trip in Nalusuan, Bohol Island, and Oslob. The beaches are so clean that we may not see such beauty in Taiwan. There is limpid with crystal water under the shiny sunshine and azure sky, and you can even see the white sand through the seawater directly. You can plan yourself to enjoy anything you want with your friends on the weekends, so you won’t be so stressful to study English all day long in the weekdays.
We study English in every field every day, such as: listening, speaking, reading, conversation, and etc. Students from other countries should force themselves to think in English, and that is the best way to learn English skill but the difficult challenge for them is to adapt the circumstance. Therefore, there are some important tasks for students to work out. First, study English for shorter or longer hours after school every day to keep a habit of thinking in English, or you can’t make normal conversation with people in English. Moreover, making friends with others of different nationalities can not only improve your English speaking skill but also help you to learn the different cultures and mentality from other countries.
Lastly, unwind yourselves and enjoy studying English!
Most of the students here who decided to study abroad really wanted to improve their English ambitiously. However, some students took it so seriously. In fact, they stressed themselves. That is an actual experience from me, and I learned that lesson from my teachers in Cebu.
An unhoped-for piece of luck; I met lots of people here who have different kinds of personalities and systems of value. Those who stepped into my life really taught me something; from studying English to human life, I have learned from them indeed. I found my advantages which I had never known before, and also I accepted my weak point to confront myself rather than denying myself always as before. That is, my confidence has been developed due to their encouragement.
Actions speak louder than words; we resolved that nothing should hold us back. In spite of the limited time, we gained a lot of lessons in the Philippines. Passed such hard but worthwhile challenges, we became more mature and learned to live independently. I’ll miss the life with everybody here, and I treasure our friendships and memories indeed. I believe we are destined to meet each other again.
We can really ponder over our future with affordable expense to study English and enjoy in Cebu. I celebrate success that I studied in Cebu, and so will you do! Just come to Cebu to join us as soon as you can!
